A user received a letter from Yandex technical support with the following text:
Today we carried out technical work in Yandex. Oblak. Unfortunately, due to the human factor, user virtual machines were removed in ru-central1-c zone which at least once were in SUSPENDED status. We immediately noticed the error and stopped the removal. Alas, some VMs and their boot disks have been deleted.
As a result, the user was completely lost some production server. The victim had backups, but some of the data was still irretrievably lost. Usually, Yandex compensates for the down-time of its services, according to its policy , but who compensates for data loss?
The Yandex. Cloud service started in 2018. This is the first serious incident in its history, but not the first in the history of the company. In the past, Yandex.Mail once irretrievably lost all attachments from stored messages, and the Yandex.Disk client erased all files on the user's computer when installing or updating.
