Atomexpo 2019, part 2: exposure


The second story about the Atomexpo-2019 forum is devoted to the exposition. In general, it can be divided into two parts - a large, advanced, beautiful and popular science space of Rosatom and the usual stands of the participants.

The slogan “The future is here” is felt immediately at the entrance. Being an enthusiast of monocolos, I could not take pictures of like-minded people.



Rosatom presented its exposition in a separate room. The word “popular science” above was used quite rightly, in addition to specific projects of the state corporation, a demonstration of the life cycle of nuclear fuel from mining to burial was organized, supplemented with interesting information. The center of the hall was given to an interactive installation that changed the images on the screens, played a good drone ambient and reacted to gestures. The artifact looked like a work of Cetagandan artists from fiction by Lois McMaster Bujod (for those who have not read it is a compliment, Cetagandan art is complex, high-tech and beautiful).

The path of nuclear fuel began in the section with an IT-eye-sharper called “Front End”.



It looks like a yellow cake - u sub <3> O 8 uranium concentrate. Of course, an imitation is shown, but the high overall realism is somewhat spoiled by an unstitched glove, due to which the “cake” is scattered outside.



Authentic fuel assembly. Fuel pellets are prepared from uranium concentrate, which are loaded into fuel elements (TVEL), which in turn are installed in such an assembly (TVS).

Section “Development and construction”. In general, there were many interactive stands on the exposition. Specifically, it was possible to virtually gather floating NPP and look at the construction stage of the usual station.



The interactive model vividly illustrated how complex and voluminous the NPP project was - as new stages of the building moved, new buildings were highlighted, and explanations were displayed on the screen.



The next section, “Science and Innovation,” was devoted to new projects. Here, for example, the reactor layout “Shelf” , the main feature of which is the minimal need for maintenance (therefore, the human figure is more likely to scale). The capsule is sealed, so you can, for example, immerse it on the seabed near a small town and control it from a ground station. Once every ten years the capsule is removed and serviced.



Model of structures project" Breakthrough " - the reactor" BREST-OD-300 "will close the fuel cycle and, in addition to energy production, will allow to extract from the spent nuclear fuel everything that can be useful, reducing the number and nuclear waste activity.

In the “Mechanical Engineering” section, beautiful animated models of reactors with explanatory data were shown.



The most serious stand was in the “Generation” section. Now the nuclear power plant has simulators (the guide called it also a digital copy), which are used throughout the life cycle of the station. At the design stage, you can see what and where it is better to place and show it to the customer. When the station is working, it is possible to train personnel on the model in conditions as close as possible to the actual situation, but without the risk of damaging the present station by erroneous actions. Adequate physics, reflected in the model, allows even simulations of accidents to be arranged and gain experience without real risk and harm.



Stand showing the annealing of the reactor vessel. Under conditions of constant radiation exposure, the metal becomes brittle. And if the body is heated and cooled very slowly, the original properties of the metal will be restored, and the reactor will serve another fifteen years.

There was a lot of interesting things in the “New Businesses” sector. At the big screen telling about the Northern Sea Route, the guide was a real senior assistant to the icebreaker Taimyr. We talked a little bit. It is curious that now icebreakers do not need their own aircraft for ice reconnaissance - fresh satellite photos are available and much more convenient. Therefore, new icebreaker projects have a helipad, but there is no full hangar. And an unusual bow is simply explained - the weight balance of the ship. Living areas at the bow balance the machinery and equipment at the stern. “Lenin” had traditional proportions because it was an experimental ship, class" Taimyr " engineers won the designers and put, in my opinion, ugly cubic superstructures, while the Leader" engineers and designers managed to combine practical and aesthetic needs in a beautiful solution. < br/>

Interesting displays, I never figured out how they work. But it looks nice - the animation is superimposed on the three-dimensional image. And 3D printing technology is almost mainstream.



A simple simulator of a smart city - we allocate resources for projects to improve the infrastructure, we look at the result. It is impossible to lose, but, depending on the selected projects, the benefits for the city will be different.

And finally, in the “Backend” the completion of operation. We are accustomed to the fact that radioactive waste is green, liquid and luminous, but in reality only the color coincides.



Nuclear waste is vitrified (associated with glass). After such an operation, burial of waste under the ground becomes more likely a psychological gesture, because if the technology is observed, storing them on the surface will be just as safe.



Go to the stands of other participants. In general, two markedly different groups can be distinguished: those who display the flag and are looking for business partners. The first group is already well-known players, organizations close to Rosatom, and nuclear power plants. A distinctive feature of the stalls of the first group - at best there are paper leaflets. And to find interesting facts for the story more difficult. In the most curious way, representatives of the Russian budgetary institution, having seen the “press” badge on me, banally refused to communicate. The second group tries to present the goods by the person, therefore their kiosks are better decorated, filled with exhibits, and it is more interesting to talk about them. Although it was not without curiosities here, the inhabitants of one kiosk, seeing that I was going to take a picture of him, urgently left their seats, not wanting to get into the frame.



Most of all, the company “Zenit Chernozemie”, rolled out the promobota zzyvalu. And it offers a permanent formwork of concrete, reinforced with metal fiber (“wire” in the package below). To me, a person far from construction, it seemed that the removable formwork should be more economically advantageous, but, according to a company representative, they are not treated with much care at construction sites. And the formwork offered by them is made ready-made blocks, is quickly installed and has a plus for the nuclear industry in increased absorption of radiation. But for domestic construction, it is still expensive.



The unusual feature of the IUEC booth is that its customers are states. The IUEC is an international uranium enrichment center, and its goal is to ensure the supply of nuclear fuel. The country-participant refuses the independent project on uranium enrichment, thereby supporting the non-proliferation treaty of nuclear weapons, and in return gets access to nuclear fuel suitable only for nuclear power plants. So far, the organization apart from Russia consists only of Kazakhstan, Armenia and Ukraine, but who knows, maybe in the future there will be new members.



Video surveillance systems for the construction of the company “Techno-shield”. They are said to be in demand for the case when the work is performed by a subcontractor.



Greenatom is a subsidiary of Rosatom, therefore it belongs to the first category and demonstrates the flag, but creatively. For the week in Python + OpenCV, a program was written specially for the conference that counts visitors and determines their mood, so the kiosk looks more interesting. In addition, the company took to the networking forum developers for the sake of, and, judging by the discussions that I noticed, the idea was successful.

On the contrary, the CNNC booth in China caused a feeling of weak interest - fewer employees, a minimum of booklets and no souvenirs.

In general, many forum participants work not only with the nuclear industry, but also with the oil industry. Here, for example, EMIS flowmeters.



Stand residents Skolkovo. It offered a variety of products - chemical precursors for nuclear medicine, building inclination sensors (their products, by the way, are on the building where the forum took place), dosimetric systems, anti-corrosion coatings, equipment for electrotomographic monitoring.



The atomic industry for the common man is associated with the bang of the Geiger counter, but it was just the dosimeters that were represented little — that’s almost the only stand of Atomtech.



Titanium rose from VSMPO-AVISMA. Many have heard about its supply of titanium to aviation, but it is also used in the nuclear industry.



Since we were talking about art, the Trubnaya Metallurgical Company distinguished itself by presenting a Wire Thinker. In general, a great move, it was one of the most photographed forum objects.
